About this piece

The Praijing Cabinet takes its name from the Praijing traditional village on Sumba's west coast — one of Indonesia's best-preserved megalithic settlements. The cabinet is a full-height storage piece in teak, built using frame-and-panel construction with mortise-and-tenon joinery throughout.

The two doors have hand-turned ebony pulls — small, precise, and black against the warm teak. The interior has three fixed shelves and one removable divider. The back panel is tongue-and-groove teak slats rather than plywood.

Made for

A wardrobe, a linen cabinet, a bar cabinet, a display cabinet for ceramics or books. At 160 cm tall and 90 cm wide it fills a wall without overwhelming a room.

Suitable for interior use. The teak is kiln-dried and stable; will not warp in normal tropical indoor conditions. Ships as two pieces (carcass + door pair) for easier freight and assembly takes under 30 minutes.

Carcass — Teak

Frame-and-panel teak construction. Top, base, and sides are panel-in-frame; the back is tongue-and-groove slats. All primary joints are mortise-and-tenon. Finished in raw linseed oil on the exterior; beeswax on interior surfaces.

Hardware — Sumba Ebony

Four hand-turned ebony pulls (two per door). Each pull is a single piece of Diospyros celebica, turned on the workshop lathe and dry-fitted into the door rail. No metal hardware — the pulls thread directly into the teak.

Frame care

Re-oil the exterior once or twice per year with raw linseed oil. Re-wax the interior annually. Avoid ammonia or silicone cleaners. Hinges are solid brass — wipe with a dry cloth. See wood care guide.

Surface care

Wipe ebony pulls with a dry cloth. No treatment needed. If scratched, buff with 400-grit sandpaper along the grain.
